Hello I am Barbara Anne Applegate, a self taught artist, I started my painting in the late 1970's with oil on canvas, I then moved to Arcylic decorative art in the 1980's. In the 1997, I started creating computer generated dog animation using some of my old artwork which I used to create my animation.
I have retired and I have moved back to painting on canvas with oils in April of 2007. I am now painting just about full time but I'm really just beginning.
I have raised and trained Australian Shepherd dogs for the conformation show ring and the stockdog trial arena, I am an ASCA sanctioned Conformation Judge since 1996, so I am most comfortable painting animals, landscapes and seascapes with a flair of the southwest where I grew up. I was born in Texas, raised in New Mexico, I have lived in Washington, California, Minnesota, Connecticut, and Oregon since 1981, and then moved to the beautifully wild and scenic Rogue River Valley of Southern Oregon USA in 1991. So my painting reflects many diverse areas of the country.
I find I paint with a palette knife and the detail with a brush. I prefer to paint in a realistic fashion, usually things closest to my heart.
