Barbara McMahon is a self-taught artist in the mediums of watercolour, acrylic, oil and photography. Born in England of Polish parents, her family emigrated to Southern Ontario where Barbara continues to reside. Her natural creativity came from a sense of wonderment of her rural surroundings and closeness to nature. By osmosis from the beauty of the farmland, forests, streams, animals and wildlife, and her parent's love of nature, music, art and culture, her senses were happily assaulted by the natural beauty in which she was surrounded. There was plenty of quiet time while grazing cattle with a sketch book in hand to observe, wonder and create. She became acutely aware of seeing and listening.
Barbara has found that there is not enough time to capture on canvas all that inspires her. She is emboldened by vivid colours, by simplicity, by complexity and by the sheer luminosity of life, humanity and the cosmos.
As her experience has grown in the art world, she has developed a deeper understanding of this vast universe and her own flickering place within it.
