Beena Samuel - Fine Artist
Born in India & resident of UAE since 1982. Beena's artworks in Watercolor, Silk & Acrylic are contemporary, spontaneous & impressionistic. Her inspirations are landscapes, still life & colourful figures drawn from life. Colours, shapes, textures & design interest her. She does art to express the joy, the inner experience that landscapes, objects & events arouse in her as an artist. Beena works almost like a jazz musician - play around, improvise on the go & the rest - the painting tells what to do, where to go.
Her background is in accountancy but Art is her passion. She has longed to draw & paint since her student years but only got the opportunity to take it up in 1995. Although she considers herself mostly self-taught, in that she has no formal art education since high school, however she regularly attends workshops with artists residing in the UAE & abroad.
Beena loves Watercolors for its untamable & transparent qualities and enjoys the vibrance & smoothness of Silk Painting. She has a passion for learning, thirst for knowledge & thrives on challenge & growth. Few of her favourite arists are Turner, Van Gogh, Charles Reid, Shirley Trevena, Barbara Nechis & Samir Mondal.
Beena has held group exhibitions in the UAE(i.e. Dubai & Sharjah) since 1999 & her first solo exhibition at Gallery76 in Dubai in October 2008. She has won several awards including the prestigious UAE Watercolor Challenge in 2003 judged by Professor Peter Wheeler, Dean, College of Fine Arts, Sharjah and the well known New Zealand artist, Gaynor Mulholland.
