I have been painting with acrylics for over twenty years, and have had many successes over those years. A success for me is when my work has touched peoples lives in a positive way.
Winters are cold where I live, even though I try, it is nearly impossible to paint outside year round. I paint fast to counteract the changing elements and lighting, and usually just with my painting knives. This fast moving painting style results in strokes that are layered and textured, and definitely not tight. Then I have my other love, studio pieces that I pick away at with brushes over the span of many sessions. I love the challenge of a portrait, bringing the canvas to life with your subject. I can get lost in the details, which is so opposite of my plein air pieces. The more detailed I get with a portrait the better. Plein air pieces are best when not bogged down with details, just capturing the essense.
I love both approaches, and for years struggled with feeling I had to choose one over the other. I now embrace both as my styles It's like printing verses cursive, it can be the same writer, even the same pen, all the way down to the same paper, but each has a very distinct look, carrying their own message.
I would love to hear your comments on my work.
Thanks for taking the time to stop by.
