Carlos de Vasconcelos Tavares was born in Oliveira do Bairro, Portugal in 1973, and is the youngest of four siblings. During his early childhood Carlos and his family lived in Mozambique and Venezuela, they later returned to Portugal where he currently lives.
As a child he always drew or painted but he only started to dedicate a rather substantial amount of time to his love of art in 1996. Being autodidactic, he paints a wide range of subject matter such as rail art, electrical trams, naval, military, antique/vintage cars, nostalgic themes, portraiture and traditional Portuguese ceramic tile painting.
While the vast majority of his art is in private collections, he has paintings in public collections including the National Railway Museum Foundation (fmnf.pt) located in Entroncamento, Portugal and others in Military bases scattered all over Portugal such as Beja, Montijo and Sintra Airforce bases and the Entroncamento Military base. Some of his artwork has also been licensed and published as book covers.
Most recently he has been accepted as an associate member of the Guild of Railway Artists.
