Carly Hardy

Having always loved the outdoors, plein air painting came naturally. My outdoor paintings serve as references to larger, more abstract paintings in the studio. My work has evolved into distinct styles, one in which I playfully capture the subject with line, shape and color, and another which ranges from mild abstraction to a more non-objective style.

Recent landscapes have taken on a greater emotional impact, carrying the viewer to depths beyond the surface application of line and texture. The rivers, marshlands and rich colors of the sky have become fresh muses that are eager to show up on canvas. A relocation to the Georgia low-country and a studio with classroom space have made it possible to share my love of painting with students year round.

I'm an art instructor and juried artist at The Glynn Art Association on St. Simon's Island, currently serving as President for the Georgia Coastal Artists Guild, Co-ordinator of the Oil Pastel Society, and teach classes at my studio, located in Darien, GA.
