Most of my life I have had a pencil in my hand drawing the world around me and dreaming of painting images like my Great Grandfather did. I was exposed to his work at a very early age when visiting my much loved Grandmother and now have one hanging in my own home.
I continued with sketching and drawing right through my school years and teachers college. Once teaching I put my drawing skills to use in the class room and loved art lessons with my students.
I joined an art Group when I was in my early 20s for a couple of years but moved house and just continued to dabble in oils for a few more year. My art was moved aside whilst my husband and I raised our 3 sons and I also worked part time. Once the boys left home I took watercolour lessons and have continued to develop my art over the past 12 years. I have done many workshops and love to experiment with paint and styles. I am always looking for new things to try.
Exhibitions I find are a great way to promote yourself as an artist. Even if you don't sell or do not receive an award, your work is still being viewed and that's what counts. So with this I encourage my students and art friends to always exhibit when they can. I have been very fortunate with my exhibiting in that my work is become know in the district which I live in, with a bonus of having sold works and won awards.
As teaching is something I enjoy, I have combined these two pleasures by teaching young people art after school. Working with the teens is my favourite age group and I find I learn so much from them. These wonderful students have given me so much confidence in myself to go out there and chase the dream of continuing with my art.
