Carol Sabo - Fine Artist
Carol has been an artist and calligrapher for over 45years. While exploring all kinds of mediums like oils, pastels, acrylics, sculpture and even various kinds of crafts, Carol always came back to her love of the letter form and the use of watercolor to compliment the words. She became a member in many local, national and international art guilds and organizations. In the 1980s she began doing as many as 26 art shows and exhibits, juried and nonjuried, every year and developed her own clientele. She was one of 9 founders of Scripts & Scribes in Akron, Ohio.
While accumulating many awards and recognitions she began speaking and doing demonstrations on TV and to local groups. Since then, she has owned three Art Galleries, a Gift Shop and a Coffee Shop, all of which exhibited and sold her artwork. Since 1995 Carol has been working form her studio at home on many corporate and personal commissions as well as a calligraphy book of original religious poems written by Gerald Headd. She has also written a cookbook of her family recipes and all the illustrations and calligraphy are done by her. Her medium usually consists of watercolors, inks, gouaches for miniatures and acrylics on canvas. Her acrylics are bright, bold and colorful and in some cases she gives them a three demensional effect. She has always been inspired by Georgia O'Keefe.
One of her pieces was a winner in the Graceful Envelope Contest and was on exhibit at the Smithsonian in 2003.
Since moving from Ohio to Arizona in 2003 Carol has been selling her work in Old Town Scottsdale and Naples Fl. She was in 'Best of Scottsdale' 2005. Some of her paintings can now be available as Limited Edition (150) GiClee's, or prints on canvas.
A Certificate of Authenticity and artist bio, comes with each original/L. E. Her artist statement and achievements are available upon request.
'What I like best about being both an artist and a calligrapher is that I'm always productive. When my hand is not steady, I paint. When I have a painting block and my hand is steady... I fly right through a calligraphic piece without a snag! When I hit a grove I've been known to work right through the night whether it's calligraphy or painting. I never stop when all is working'. The painting 'My Non-velvet Southwestern Adobe' came to me in a dream from my deceased husband. (It was similar to my 'Desert Oasis') I got up in the middle of the night, drew it and went back to bed. The next morning I got up, got my coffee and began painting it. I never stopped until it was done, 48 hours later. By the way, he told me I would sell it... I did.. two weeks later for $3000.00 and got two commissions to do two smaller ones to match it.'
'I'm a happy lady and enjoy making people smile when they view my work or buy it.'
