Catherine M. Holmes has been a working artist for 24 years.
She studied for two and half years at the Ontario College of Art and Design in the early 80’s before moving to Thunder Bay, Ontario where she received her Bachelor of Arts, with a concentration in Fine Arts and her Bachelor of Education from Lakehead University.
While in Thunder Bay, Catherine illustrated for the Ministry of Natural Resources. She also completed a number of commissioned works in watercolour and pen and ink.
Catherine then began traveling with her husband and two young children in the early 90’s. Their travels took them to South Africa, Finland, Russia and Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.
Some time was spent in Toronto, where Catherine worked as a ‘visiting artist’ in the schools from June 1994 - April 1996. She also focused on her writing, completing Writing for Children I & II through George Brown College.
From 2004 - 2008 Catherine illustrated for 6 magazines published by Up Here Publishing in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, (Up Here, Canadian Diamonds, Far North Oil and Gas, Construction North of 60, Mining North and Prospects North).
Catherine then began painting full-time - completing 49 paintings in her 49th year! Some of these paintings can be viewed here and purchased as prints, canvases, cards etc. She divides her time between poured watercolours and water soluble oil paintings.
Catherine now makes her home near Copenhagen, Denmark.
