In 1973 I set out with college degree in hand from California State University, Chico (then called Chico State College) to begin a career in graphic design and silk screen printing. Photography was an adjunct to my design career and over the years I shot a lot of film. It was something I liked to do, however the images went into my archives. A few were lab printed, framed and hung, but most languished away in the dark.
Silk screen printing gave way within a half-a-dozen years to full-bore graphic design which then dove into the world of computers in 1983. Over the years, from that rudimentary beginning, I fully incorporated digital technologies to run the business and as design and production tools. The final leap occurred in 2006 when I quit shooting film and jumped fully into digital photography, presently shooting with a Canon 5D.
My photography divides along two paths, first is what I consider to be 'traditional' and second, my photo art I refer to as 'image-within-an-image.' My images shown here are of my traditional work. The other can be seen on my website, www.charlieosborn.com.
My traditional work focuses on landscapes and smaller details within the landscape, but the range of my shooting constantly expands as is represented by my photos in this gallery. Regardless of what I shoot, my goal is to photograph a subject that interests me, resulting in a combination of composition, color, texture, and/or pattern to engage the viewer.
