I知 compelled to make art. Even at a young age I knew I wanted to grow up to be an artist. Self-taught I never stop exploring ways of expressing myself. I am inspired when I paint with fellow artists and of course I知 rewarded by their influence. Making art fills me up and it grounds me. Through my work I知 connected to everything around me.
As a mixed media artist who uses mostly acrylics, I also make use of many other media like pastels, oils, colored pencils, found objects and much more. My work is mostly non-representational or abstract. The unifying factor is my love for using texture. I enjoy the resulting light and shadow that affects the artwork. My canvases just beg to be touched!
I know the painting is done when it conveys great energy and seems to have a soul. This may take many months or a few days to evolve. But once I feel its pulse it is ready for my signature.
My current work is heavily influenced by the life cycle of everything happening in the forest that surrounds my home studio. The way the light changes as it tumbles through the moving trees on a breezy day. The subtle colour changes from dawn until dark and season-to-season. Feeling the texture of the flora and hearing the sounds of the fauna all day long. I知 exploring what nature does for me emotionally. And it really shows in my paintings.
I was born in Montreal, Quebec, in 1962. Crayons, papers and colored pencils were my life force. I moved to Toronto, Ontario at the age of 11 where I learned to speak English. My best communication tool in those early days was to draw and make collages.
In 1991, my husband and I moved to the Ottawa region and decided to set roots in Dunrobin, Ontario. Our home is in a tranquil forested setting and is shared with my husband of 25 years, our Great Pyrenees Mountain Dog named Gus and our tabby cat Tattoo. I have a lovely teaching studio in my home where I teach mixed media techniques.
