Born in Italy, yet raised in Canada, Chiarina began her professional career as an occupational therapist after receiving her degree from McGill University. After several years she moved abroad, accompanying her husband on his numerous assignments as an international banker. Over the course of nearly two decades they moved all over the world, with more than half of the time spent in Asia. It was during her sojourn abroad that she was able to seriously indulge in her first love, art. Although she has studied with numerous wonderful teachers, she is a mostly self-taught artist. She is now back in Canada, living in Victoria, BC, and working and involving herself with the local art community.
Working in printmaking, watercolour and book arts, Chiarina finds art to be her best conduit for communication, reflection and revelation. Her art is a lyrical dance of words and imagery on an uncharted voyage of discovery. “The artist in me never sleeps. She peers through my eyes at the shifting forms and flowing colors of my world. She listens to my heart and hears the echoes of my desires. She swims inside my stomach and churns up waves of emotion. She wanders around my mind unlocking treasure chests of ideas. She takes me in hand and weaves her magic with brush and brayer. She is my muse and inspiration.”
