Many contemporary Southwestern artists are sources of inspiration to Christine Belt. One such Taos artist in particular, Malcolm Furlow, has motivated her to respond with a Midwestern flair. The response mirrors Nebraska's theme, 'The Good Life'. Belt is committed to engage people to 'vow to take back the good life'. Amidst the current storm in America, there's a message of hope in Christine's art. The hope is that man desires to embrace what is honest, pure, and fascinating.

Nebraska native and artist, Christine Belt, has felt a tug at her heart ever since she and her family first visited Taos, New Mexico. Every summer, as a child, Christine and her family would visit Taos where her grandparents built their home.

Christine was raised in Omaha until age ten. At that time, she and her family moved to the outskirts of Elkhorn and purchased a twenty unit motel (Dodge Motel) near Father Flanagan’s Boy’s Town. Being part of a family business running a motel was interesting; to say the least. She came to meet a variety of people. Those most intriguing to her were the jockeys and their families who came to the Omaha area for the famous Aksarben horse races.

During Christine’s formative years she lived in, and was exposed to, both urban and rural communities. Her memories from that experience are quite juxtaposed; running the gamut of remembering that the Hell’s Angels could be seen driving down her street in Omaha in contrast to riding bikes on the back roads in Elkhorn (surrounded by feedlots and the aroma that comes along with that).

Christine’s very different exposures during those years more than likely can explain her artwork. Simply put, Contemporary Rural. She often portrays farm animals realistically in and of themselves, yet places them in a contradicting environment. The surrounding scenes of the animals in her paintings are stylized and expressive with color. One example of this can be seen in her acrylic painting titled “Home at the Farm”.

Christine’s many summers spent in New Mexico has also influenced her artistic style and helped to lay this unique foundation. Her exposure to the rich culture, its turquoise laden landscape, and the art colonies has definitely made their mark on her creations.

Christine also enjoys creating in forms other than painting. Photography is another avenue in which she depicts her Midwest themes. Some of her subjects are of barns and stunning floras.

Christine continues to reside in Nebraska, frequently visits New Mexico, and connects two beautiful regions creatively in her art. Be sure to visit her websites to see her vision as an artist. Enjoy!
