***PLEASE VISIT MY NEW WEBSITE CHRISTOPHERMIZE.COM *** Christopher Mize is an artist working primarily in oils. Since childhood he has been drawing and experimenting with the medium and many methods of applying paint. Self-taught, Mize studied music through high school and received an Honors Economics Degree from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia and an MBA Degree from Augusta State University in Georgia. 'All of those years studying business and involved in business management, I never put down the brush. Although I was able to focus on my career in business, I had never been really living the life I should have led - that of an artist. Now, working full-time in painting, I can't imagine living a life that was not fully dedicated to my art,' Mize states.
Focusing on wine related subjects, Mize has carved out a unique response to his surroundings in Virginia. As one of the most up and coming wine regions in the country, Virginia is Mize's birthplace and home. He has developed a method of applying oils in a heavy impasto that creates painterly effects across each canvas surface he develops. He is trademarked as 'Virginia's Wine Artist' and prefers to push the limits of creativity within the wine lifestyle subjects he has found so readily available in his home state. Whether it is a wine still-life, a landscape of a vineyard, or a figurative composition involving wine, Mize's realistic approach, impasto technique and brilliant palette have a great appeal to wine fans and collectors alike. His prints, embellished giclees and originals are in more than 5,000 homes across the USA and South America.
Mize works in a 1,500 square foot studio in the rolling countryside outside Richmond, Virginia. He divides his time living and working in both the Richmond studio and a studio located on the banks of the Rappahannock River in Virginia's Northern Neck.
