Maria Cristina - Fine Artist
Maria Cristina’s artwork is witty, humorous, and heartwarming as described by a following that is rapidly expanding beyond Las Cruces, New Mexico, her present home town. Her works have found homes in Japan, the Netherlands, Germany, and the East Coast of the United States. Maria Cristina is blessed with a natural talent and is self-taught. She has been successfully selling her artwork since 2001 after her early retirement from a career as a college administrator.
Although Maria Cristina is also gaining recognition as a folk artist who paints with various media to create retablos, 'tin' paintings, and embellished crosses, she is best known for her free hand drawings in MS Word™, an unusual medium for graphic artists. More recently, Maria Cristina has expanded to use Art Studio™ and Photoshop™. Self-taught, the artist uses a mouse to create her images. She produces limited edition artist prints of her drawings in her own home studio, using archival quality paper and dyes to ensure fine and enduring quality. For inspiration, she falls back on her travels, life experiences, encounters with diverse cultures, deep religious faith, and a vivid imagination. She holds a doctorate in Education from the University of Washington (1994, Seattle, WA).
As an artist illustrator, her style is constantly evolving. Her themes reflect the humor, passion, and fun of life in New Mexico. She operates an art gallery and gift shop, Regalos y Art by Maria Cristina inside the Ramada Palms Resort and Conference Center at 201 E. University Avenue in Las Cruces.
