Cynthia Dickinson, a life-long native of Minnesota, has always had a talent creating art. “There’s something that captures my attention and I see something that I want to share with everyone”, states Cynthia, when she refers to all the different mediums of art she has participated in over the years. “There’s a feeling that comes through me—that needs a voice… and that’s what I attempt to do—be the voice for that essence or spirit.”
Whether its climbing up a twelve-foot ladder and tossing metal objects into a mass pile only to climb down and weld them together to create a beautiful sculpture, or create an elegant dinner party as a Chef, or even capture the aliveness in the wilderness, Cynthia always has her eyes wide-open and sees things in a completely different way than most.
“I love to photograph wilderness… and that can be in a woods in northern Minnesota or the tall, luminous structures of a grain elevator in downtown Minneapolis… its all part of the same true essence… and something inside me tells me to capture and share it with others.”
Cynthia has worked as a Chef in several restaurants in and around Minneapolis—and even finds art in the creation of food. “I love creating new combinations that bring something different to palettes as much as enriching the flavors of ‘old-time’ favorites”. There is definitely love that goes into her creations… anyone who has tasted her cooking can verify it. The same is true when looking at her photo art. There is a passion that is captured in her work. “There’s a spirit in all that I see that is captured in my photos. I’m not sure how I do it, to be honest, and I’m not even sure it comes from me, but rather it comes through me from a higher power,” is how Cynthia describes what occurs while out in the field.
Cynthia has recently been hired to shoot photos of the wilderness areas in northern Minnesota at State Parks to help visitors to explore areas that are often overlooked.
