About the artist...
Cynthia Vaught began painting with acrylics on canvas at age thirteen and was encouraged by her mother to nurture her creativity and pursue her artistic dreams. After graduating from the Ohio State University, she became an art teacher and a practicing artist. She has been teaching art for over twenty years and currently works with advanced high school students preparing them for careers as a professional artist. Cynthia worked in stained glass for twenty years creating custom designs for clients all over the USA. (www.stainedglassartists.com) Recently, she has experienced a creative transition leaving the glass medium and finding a new niche for her art. She has been inspired and re-energized by other artists' work and found a new medium which actually goes back to her original passion - acrylic painting. This new body of work consists of three-dimensional foam core paintings which are based on concepts of the human condition...love, loss, acceptance, family, gratitude and change.
Since starting this new adventure in foam core two and a half years ago…. Cynthia has created over one hundred paintings. Her new series Metamorphosis: 100 Butterflies, was inspired by her favorite artist, Georgia O’Keeffe who painted one hundred flowers. In this series Cynthia is exploring the concept of metamorphosis, as defined by the dictionary as “a drastic and sudden change” in the context of her own life in transition. Feelings of rebellion and taking chances are being explored as well as honoring childhood memories.
