ALTHOUGH Dale has worked in many media WATERCOLOR remains his favorite.
Living and painting in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, he is known for his interpretations of the surrounding lush farmlands and the local Amish community. He describes himself as a regional artist, painting what he loves and knows best. He works in the traditional watercolor manner, - - a direct approach, with luminous, transparent colors.
After active army service in Hawaii and the invasion of Saipan during W.W.II, he attended the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art for four years. There he studied illustration under Henry Pitz, drawing with Fred Rothermel and Mary Sweeney, oils with Gertrude Schell and watercolor with W. Emerton Heitland.
He had years of practical experience with R.R.Donnelley, in Lancaster, as a graphic designer, which prepared him for his job of Corporate Creative/Art Director for U.S.Tobacco, Inc. in Greenwich, CT. He held this position until he retired eighteen years later. Among his many duties were package design, art dirctor for TV commercials, creating and managing The Museum of Tobacco Art and History, in Nashville,TN and collecting and curating U.S.T. corporate art collection,
Dale is a prizewinning, signature member of the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, and has been awarded Honorary Life Membership in both the Baltimore Watercolor Society, and the Philadelphia Water Color Society. His work has been exhibited for many years in juried shows around United States as well as locally
He has served on the boards of the New Canaan CT Society for the Arts, The Demuth Foundation and Museum, The Pennsylvania Watercolor Society , and The Lancaster County Art Association..
