My name is Daria and I am a free artist. Free because I am an independent, freedom loving and rebellious individual with a limitless imagination. I have been drawing whole my life and my main goal is to transfer my strong visions to paper and welcome you into the world of my imagination. Short about me: I am an international person with Danish/Russian background. I have an abundance of a real life experience, as I moved many times, travelled, known people from all over the world, worked, attended/quit a few universities. As I went through life changes and searched for my identity, I eventually realized that I need not look further then inside myself - I always had an art talent. It was then clear to me that all the experiences that I have gained, all the pain and joy I have felt, served one purpose only: a contribution to the world in a form of my artwork. It is my biggest legacy.
My art is characterized by three important elements, which make it completely unique and exceptional: esthetic beauty, originality and symbolism. It is hard to find artists that combine these three aspects in harmonious ways. My art has it all: a deeper meaning, decorative, yet abstract, surreal style and unusual, outstanding imagery. In addition, my use of bright, vivid colors, daring color combinations and powerful quotes, make the style of my art work easily recognizable and solely my own. My conceptual art works are truly mind-expanding. That is why I consider my art to be psychedelic.
I have received a special recognition award from Upstream People Gallery and have participated in their international online juried exhibitions. You can find me on other artistic sites, such as deviantart.com and artflakes.com.
I am a self taught artist, and the techniques that I use in my paintings are purely self-taught and self discovered. I experimented with all types of media, but gouache, markers and oil pastels have formed the basis of my material use. I do not limit myself to conventional one media use only; all of my paintings are made with mixed media. Freedom in creating is probably the only true freedom existing.
My inspiration comes from real life events, which get processed through the lenses of my experiences, thoughts and feelings. For me art starts in observing. My paintings would be unfinished until the right moment, a certain feeling or an idea would strike me with a revelation, until I find a special thought to convey. I am not an artist that draws in quantity, for me artistic work lays in “quality” of visions transferred to paper. My carefully thought through details and symbols, make my art philosophical, yet universal.
For instance, an idea for my Isra-Alien PsyTrance RaveOlution painting emerged as pattern on a carpet in 2005. I made a sketch, where I wanted to show a strong feeling of something, which I would later refer to as “psychedelic”, but at that point I did not know anything about the term and had yet to discover psychedelic trance and start to learning Hebrew, along with having to go through a major depression – all of which has culminated into the painting you see today.
Another source of my inspiration is electronic music genre. Israeli musicians such as Astrix, Infected Mushroom, X-Noize and Yahel are the few that have the biggest effect on my art, as their music intensifies the emotions, which I am inspired by. Loneliness, sadness, rejection, depression, but also love, dreams and hope – this is the spectra of feelings that have contributed to my art. These emotions are extremely powerful and overwhelming; they raise questions over the point of our existence and life in general. Being an international person, I find it hard to be completely understood by the majority of the normal population. The feeling of not belonging anywhere and being a stranger in every country, truly enhanced the feeling of solitude. Here is an inside look into my vision of solitude: No one around. Isolation. Deserted cities. Darkness. Grey sky. Walking around on empty roads that lead to nowhere. Alone in purposeless universe. State of detachment. Entrancement. You are God. “I hate humanity, from it I stroll, my only refuge – is my deserted soul…” – Konstantin Balmont has described the feeling like nobody else has. Solitude is probably the strongest and most complex theme that can be traced in most of my art work.
I will finish here. The rest is for you to judge. Enjoy the “trip” (into my world)!
Best regards, DTL
