At the age 53 I came into the world of art in late 2004. I was asked by my family what I would like for Christmas and feeling it was time I took up a hobby I asked for some art material. I received some oil pastels, watercolours with sketch book and paper. It was not until the New Year before I sat down to really look at these gifts not realising that this was the start of a whole new life. My paintings were not all that good to begin with but I became so passionate about what I was doing that I knew I needed to seek some help. Six mounths after I first picked up that brush I enrolled at the Cheltenham Open College for Art and took a two year course.
Art became even more important to me when one early morning a car crashed into our corner store and effectively closed us down. For the next year we lived on our savings and some insurance compensation while our business was being re-built. My art helped me through these difficult times but sadly we began to realize that our business had gone and it would not be pratical to re-open so, we sold our property to a developer and moved to a new home. The money we receive from the sale of our property was enough to buy us a home but not to live on. My wife always the practical one went out and found a job, this with the little savings we had left allow me to continue painting with her blessing. She encouraged me more and more to exhibit my work and did everything possible to help me to continue and develop my art. Thanks to my wonder wife I was able to do the thing in life which had become so important to me.
In 2011 I began to expand my interest in photography more as a hobby then anything else. After while I start to put some of my photographic work on Facebook and found people liked them. My daughter was so impressed she encouraged me to see if I could sell them, so I have start to offer them on Fine Arts American and my own photographic website www.blackandwhite-photography.me.uk.
