Debbie Anderson - Fine Artist
Debbie Anderson is a non-conformist impressionistic artist...she likes to challenge the obvious.. Her paintings are realistic in appearance with a strong emphasis on subtle value changes marked by intense color. Her medium of choice is soft pastel. Wishing to share the brilliant qualities of the pure pigment, she specializes in pastel portraits. Less formal in nature , the artist refers to her portraits as 'expressions' 'I want to paint who people are,' says Anderson,' I am most concerned that I represent their uniqueness. That uniqueness is most often found in their eyes, so I pay particular attention to what the eyes are saying.'
While she specializes in pastel, she has acquired an intense interest in oil painting . By applying multiple layers of paint, her oils exhibit a similar recognizable luster. Though landscape in subject, the vision is in the color. To maintain flow and rhythm in her work, Anderson listens to a wide range of diverse music while painting and encourages her students to do the same, “The vaster the range and the louder the music, the more focused one becomes.”
In addition to landscapes and portraiture, Anderson is well known for her equestrian art. The powerful animal’s individuality is captured by the artist's unique style and use of varying colors and hues. Like Anderson's portraits, her equestrian art is most captivating because of the emphasis of color and light in the eyes of the animals. It is this special ability to capture the emotion through the eyes that makes Anderson's artwork unique and recognizable.
