DETROIT - Internet search giant Google recently commissioned area handmade recycled object artist Design Turnpike to create and install a series of handmade original pieces, highlighting their commitment to the Michigan area, local artists and the automotive industry. After several months of planning, design and execution, two area offices (Birmingham and Ann Arbor) now display a total of seven handmade art pieces made almost entirely of vintage Michigan license plates. The series includes a map of Michigan and the United States, the Detroit skyline, the iconic Google wordmark itself and several brand logos of well-know Google properties including Chrome, YouTube, Play and Android. Design Turnpike creates art and maps from recycled license plates.
