After growing up in Dundee, Illinois, I moved to Portland, Maine where I attended the Maine College of Art. In 2006, I graduated with a BFA, major in painting, minor in drawing, (despite having spent my senior year making sculptural assemblages).
I now live in Oregon, where I work at a local gallery, and just recently opened my own studio-gallery.
I'm inspired primarily by nature, including politics and American culture in relation to it, and have devoted the past couple of years to making shrines and reliquaries to insects, lichens, trees, birds, etc...
This past month I've returned to painting, incorporating symbolism and advocating for self-awareness/making conscious choices about how we affect the environment. Rather than being confrontational, I try to make aesthetic images that poke fun while suggesting to the viewer that there may be a deeper meaning to the piece (hopefully encouraging further critical thought/discussion).
