Diane C. Nicholson is an award-winning professional photographer and photo-artist. She specializes in nature, horses, companion animals, maternity, and families, human and non-human alike.
Born in Oregon, Diane was raised in New York City, and then a year in Berkeley, CA until her father received a position as a professor at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC. The family and its descendants have lived in Canada since.
Diane lives her life as a vegan which she feels is simply a logical off-shoot from her love and respect of animals. It is that empathy that allows her to photograph the true soul within.
She is also a published writer and works as an occasional freelance editor.
In 1983, Diane and her husband, Harry, had twin sons who died from bilateral renal agensis (no kidneys). She feels strongly that they were given to them to give her the credibility to help other grieving parents and now, to create Memorial Art. Often, we don't think about the necessity of getting professional portraits of our loved ones, whether they are animal or human family, until it is too late. Diane takes other's snapshots and turns them into art, suitable for hanging. Because she worked with grieving parents, helping them to often hold their dead babies and children, she sees the beauty in those snapshots and presents it for all to see.
