DoAn was born in North Kingstown, RI, 1970, and found artist expression early in life. As early as he can remember, he found himself fascinated by birds, animals, and the natural world. As he grew older he struggled with finding something to communicate outside of creating pretty nature pictures. The turning point for him came in 2002, when he took Buddhist precepts and was given the dharma name DoAn, which means Way of Peace. As a result of his years studying and practicing Buddhism he was able to find his true path in art--it is for that reason he signs his work under his Buddhist name DoAn.
DoAn's work is influenced by Western and Eastern artistic traditions. He often combines new materials and techniques with the traditional, to create work that exists somewhere between the borders of the West and East. Meditation is often an important element in his work, with many pieces completed only after periods of sitting meditation. His art, at times, may seem varied in subject and style, but his pieces are all steps toward finding that balance between West and East. The subject of his art is inspired by the natural world and various mythologies and cultures. He has had solo and group shows in New York City, Cincinnati and Bellevue, KY. His work is in private collections throughout the US and in the UK and Asia.
DoAn Art does not have any upcoming events scheduled at this time.
