Don Phillips has been drawing and painting for as long as he can remember.
He graduated from the Dallas Art Institute in 1959 and returned there in 1965 as a
guest lecturer. He has participated in many solo and multi-artists shows and exhibits.
Among them:
Dallas invitational Art Show, summer, 1966 - Won best of Show.
Austin Library Art Show. Fall, 1966 - First place, Abstract.
Dallas Juried Art Show - winter, 1968 - First place - Impressionism
Second place - Abstract
Dallas Marriott, Solo show, summer 1969 - Sold out
Concord Art Association, 1973- multi-artist show - First place - Abstract
Oakland Invitational Art Exhibit, 1973 - Sold out
Awarded Design Contract, 1973 and 74 - Athenian School Yearbook
Exhibiting artist at the Art-A-Fair Festival, Laguna Beach, 1981 and 82.
Featured on the cover of the Laguna Weekly magazine three times.
From 1977 to 1995 produced over 400 landscape designs for swimming pools,
winning many awards, including a first place gold medal for design in
International Competition. He also did the illustrations for an unpublished
manuscript called “the Saavanahl Scribes”. Recently his abstract paintings being
shown at the Riverside Art Museum sold out.
His paintings are in private collections throughout the United States and in over a
dozen foreign countries. Since his retirement ten years ago Phillips has been able
to concentrate on painting...This year alone he has been able to produce 72 new
works, most of them large abstracts.
And he’s still in love with it. Phillips never runs out of ideas, nor does he turn
down the opportunity to try new methods and materials in the pursuit of art. He is
an artist, and that’s what he does. Phillips is a member of several Art Associations
and is President of the Moreno Valley Art Association. His paintings are being
sold through the Riverside Art Museum Gallery, the Redlands Art Association
Gallery and the Hemet Valley Art Association Gallery. Phillips also exhibits his
work with the San Bernardino Fine Arts Institute.
........And he writes.
Writing is as important to him as his painting...it’s all art, Phillips says. His writing
wanders from Science Fiction to Essays to Action/Adventure/Mystery novels, with
art as the central theme.
His novels are: “The Primarian Transcripts” (2002) Available through Trafford

including pen and ink drawings.
“The Missing Monet” was published in September, 2006, and is available
through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders, Outskirts Press and many more outlets.
