About Donn Kay
A graduate of the University of Illinois, Donn earned his fine arts degree in Architecture.
While practicing in Colorado the mountains, his cowboy friends, the western and southwestern landscapes that surrounded him formed a base of recollections of the time he and his family spent in Colorado.
He always thought it would be interesting to paint the mountains and the horses that he and his family raised and showed; if he only had the time.
That time came when he closed his practice, gathered his painting materials and started his journey into the art world.
While painting Donn began a second career teaching architectural presentation drawing and computer 3D architectural modeling. The community college at Austin, Texas position started as a temporary assignment but lasted 15 years and again took time away from his oil painting.
Finally retiring, with no more professions in sight, Donn has been painting full time in his studio in Tomball, Texas.
Donn has recently begun to concentrate on Prismacolor pencil drawings and oil pastels in addition to the oil paintings and is about to begin a print series of his new and older work.
