Having been involved in art for the past 30 years, I now own and operate The Art School in Sandy Springs in Atlanta, GA which is fast gaining popularity throughout the southeastern US region primarily due to the quality of instruction and workshop offerings. My early training in art at the University of Georgia in the early 70's eventually led me to finish a degree in the medical field. After practicing for 20 years as a physical therapist, I opened a gallery and now, my school. This medical experience helped me really understand human anatomy and its application in art.
Chairing a number of national art events in Atlanta - TREES IN ART benefitting the Trees Atlanta organization (www.treesatlanta.org) and the 6th National Show for the Atlanta Artists Center (www.atlantaartistscenter.org) - has allowed me to gain knowledge about the juried art show process.
As far as my personal art goes, I dabble in many mediums and techniques and have been accused of not 'finding my voice'. I may choose to work with chicken wire or wax, use the palette knife or large brush to paint over a red toned canvas or create a photo encaustic. I consider myself more 'cross disciplined'.
I co-authored and published an art technique book, 'A Studio Guide to Creating Encaustic Art', have been featured in 'Horses in Art' magazine and have been a radio guest about the arts in Atlanta.
