I have been studying under Michael Gerry one of the formost large floral painters in America today. I am sorry to say that Michael passed away August 23,2008 at the age of 55. Family and friends are sad and shocked by his sudden passing. We know that he touched many people personally with his giving nature. We remember him as a person always willing to help others or give of his time, talent, and friendship. He will be greatly missed.
One of my great joys is to be able to draw and to paint. I have found that it helps me understand what I see, how things are put together and it gives me more time to meditate upon the subject. I like the peace that comes to me when I am painting. For the last 25 years I have lived in rural northwest Illinois. Land of corn, beans, rivers, and great blue skies and orange sunsets. There are river bluffs, hay fields and swamp lands all within a 15 minute drive. The area itself gives me inspiration. I have started painting still lifes and find them challenging and rewarding to paint. I find that the relation of the objects begin to represent other interactions in life. They can be made to show balance or tension or harmony. Like a good novel the paintings can move you through different thoughts while viewing them. I find myself painting more now that my 3 daughters are adults. My husband has his own homebuilding business and when I am not helping him I am gardening or painting.
