Eric Bellis (aka Rico Bell) www.ericbellis.com was born near Liverpool in the UK and has been working as a professional artist since the early seventies. His work has been exhibited and represented by many commercial galleries throughout the UK and the USA. He has also exhibited in the UK at the Royal Academy, London, the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Manchester City Art Gallery, Leeds City Art Gallery, Cardiff City Art Gallery and Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre.
In addition to his visual art work, and under the pseudonym Rico Bell, Bellis writes, records and performs music both as a solo artist and as a long time member of the Mekons, a band formed in Leeds, England in the late seventies. He and some of his fellow Mekons have also worked collaboratively on a number of art projects which include:-
‘Theater Project for a Rock Band’ at the DIA center in New York, collaborating with the conceptual artist Vito Acconci.
‘Mekons United’ collaborative and individual paintings with an accompanying book held at the Polk Museum, Florida and subsequently at the Thread-waxing space, New York.
‘Pussy King of the Pirates’ a recording and performance piece with the late Kathy Acker.
Performed in London, Brighton, Chicago and Seattle,
‘OOOH’ (Out Of Our Heads) a touring show based on the orphic myth of the singing head, produced with grant aid from the Arts Council of England.
‘The Art Tube’ a project which turned a London tube train into a traveling art gallery.

Bellis’s works have been published in print form by Felix Rosenstiel’s Widow and Son Ltd. of London and have been featured in a variety of publications which include:-
‘Mekons United, a book produced to accompany the Polk Museum exhibition.
‘Hello Cruel World’, a book of illustrated Mekons lyrics’
‘Artists Newsletter’ a UK based Magazine.
‘New Yorker’ magazine
