Non Figurative Abstracts

The artist Gauguin wrote: "Art is an abstraction; derive this abstraction from nature while dreaming before it, but think more of creating than of the actual result. The only way to rise towards God is by doing as our divine Master does, create." Abstracts are always an experiment for me as I am never quite sure of the results. They reflect my mood at the moment of creation. They are an attempt to put the viewer back in touch with the eternal qualities of the human spirit, with hidden thoughts and emotions. This gallery contains original abstracts created by Esther Newman-Cohen. The paintings are done in a variety of media - gouache, pencil, oil pastels, watercolor, india and sepia inks.
