I am a Colorado artist that works in an abstract realist style with emphasis in color...and loves discovery. “I love to let the painting paint itself when working in the more abstract style and then take charge a little more when I want the subject rendered more literally-yet consistently maintaining the ‘looseness’ I strive to honor.”
My works range in multiple media- watercolor, acrylic, collage and sometimes a combination. The subject matter is varied also. “It’s about making different statements about many things, very individual statements.”
I have been drawing, painting, and collaging since a young child. I can recall how exciting it was to draw cartoon figures on construction paper, cut away the line, mount it on black paper and see the result. The ‘paper drawing’ intrigued me. My collages are often florals and my most spontaneous works include florals, playful lively acrylic horse subjects and abstracted scenery. I work from feeling, memory and imagination-by the seat of my pants- without a whole lot of planning in my horse portraits and abstracts. I often paint out of doors for my inspiration when painting floral subjects.
I received a bachelor’s degree in Art in 1984 from San Luis Valley’s, Adams State College, but feel that I am mostly self taught for it has been the last 15 years that have shaped my Art. Studying, observing and doing a variety of Art always with an eye toward experimentation.
