Artist Statement:
My drawings and paintings are of what is about to occur or has already happened.
Floyd Gentry an American Realist specializing in fine art oil painting, pencil drawings, fine art illustration, private/commercial commissions, and portraits. I'm an award winning artist having won two dozen Best of Shows. I'm working in my hometown of Fort Worth, Texas. My drawings and paintings capture what I deem to be the myth of the West and reflect an acute sense of detail and a genuine affection for the spirit of the West. My portraits of groupings of cattle squeezed into a single frame, common tools and cowboy trappings are rendered with a sense of tradition. I've always had a facility for drawing and that was punctuated by my painting instructor Texas regionalist Bror Utter in 1967 at the Fort Worth Art Museum, while others sketched preparing for their painting, Bror took me aside and urged me to only do finished drawings, saying he felt I had wonderful facility for the pencil. My pencil markings and intriguing visual effects I hope depict my vision of the rich textured backdrop of the southwest and it's cultural traditions.
