Painting is my passion. I am a New York City artist, having studied with Bob Stanley at the School of Visual Arts and afterward, with Dan Gheno at the National Academy of Design. My paintings reflect life in the city. With Bob, I learned to see. He supported my exploration in the past, my copying the master artists - Raphael, Fra Angelico, Van Gogh, Vermeer. I once read that an artist should paint what they knew, what was around them. I followed that advice and began painting New York City scenes, starting with the Brooklyn Bridge. Those paintings were followed by paintings and drawings of Coney Island and Times Square. I love painting New York in broad brushstrokes or, at times, just a palette knife. My New York is thick paint on canvas with touches of light against the darkness. To me, New York is all about night, what you can see, what you think you can see and what may or may not be there.
