Dr. Gary Wind is a practicing general surgeon, Professor of surgery at the Uniformed Services University and staff surgeon at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He is a self-trained artist, medical illustrator and sculptor. He is the author and illustrator of 5 surgical texts and produces a surgical educational website, vesalius.com, for which he creates computer graphic illustrations. His primary non-medical interest is sculpture, mainly realistic and semi-abstract figurative work. His three-dimensional and bas-relief work is created in a non-hardening plastiline clay and cast in stone-filled resin or bronze. Works in other media include computer graphic art and plasma-cut steel plate graphics.
