About Gayla Hollis

Gayla Hollis' painting career launched after being awakened suddenly by a bright colorful dream. Time stood still in the night-time landscape underneath the dark starry universe. The protective tree was surrounded by hail that was suspended in mid air. There it was, the white buffalo illuminated by lightning.

It was then Ms. Hollis began the transfer of her dream onto canvas. Weeks later in the news; a unique white buffalo calf born at night during a hail and lightning storm, named 'Lightning Medicine Cloud'. This one is sacred to Native Americans as the 3rd true white buffalo. Today, her painting, Buffalo of Unity, is held in permanent collection at the prestigious Cultural Arts Museum, Chickasaw Nation, Oklahoma USA.

Currently, museums and private collectors in Europe and on all coasts of the USA exhibit Ms. Hollis' outstanding artworks. Commissions of interest are by best selling novelist Lucia St. Clair Robson, author of New York Times Best Seller Ride the Wind. The novelist says 'Ms. Hollis' paintings are striking, and will deeply touch you with heartfelt emotion. These paintings are unique and

in true celebration of the human spirit.'

Art professionals claim her paintings recognizable as her very own style. Ms. Hollis finds inspiration in the deep affection she holds for nature, the Cajun South, the Cherokee, and the Chickasaw. Upon viewing her art, you will find her contemporary expression of ideas colorful, and emotive.

How did she find this one of a kind style? “I allow it to flow from within” she said. In fact, upon the incredible discovery it was suggested she study other famous painters. “I did not!” she said. “I purposely refrained. I allow it to flow from within.” How incredible for this painting skill to lay dormant until it unexpectedly exploded as recent as 2011.

Ms. Hollis spent her childhood in Southern Louisiana with Bayou Courtableau and the swamp of Opelousas close by. She fondly recalls friends and youthful summers sleeping under the stars, and water skiing on the bayou. She graduated high school in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Ms. Hollis enjoys painting at her lake studio in the picturesque Arbuckle Mountains. Being of French, Cherokee, and Chickasaw descent, she shares with us through her paintings; strong expressions of energy, her spirit for life, and reverence for nature. Can you see in her paintings the energy and spirit? Can you find the vibrant spashes of spice, festivity, and music of Cajun culture?

Inspired by travels to San Antonio, California, and Colorado Buffalo Dream exhibit, 'as the past meets a hopeful future' made debut at Carr Gallery located near the Chickasaw National Park in Sulphur, Oklahoma; where the resident park buffalo are deeply ingrained into the community.

Ms. Hollis' paintings and sculpted clayworks have been chosen to exhibit in juried local and national shows, and many have been awarded ribbons and medals. In the words of Griff Blakewood, PhD, University of Louisiana, 'In the visionary art of Gayla Hollis, we experience the resonant edges between matter and mystery, vision and memory, with the unfolding possibility of sun and soil and air and water dancing at the edge of positive possibility.'
