An ancient kimono of intrigue hangs in suspension, a sensual African woman of elegance holds her head proudly and a burst of luscious dancing colour, primitive line and unique image grace an abstract work of art -these are the impressionist paintings of Genevie. Noted for distinctive and striking style, Genevie’s art is without question a visual feast, a gift of beauty and a legacy to be treasured. Genevie paints with passion, joy and a sense of privilege for her talent. Surrounded by nature and beauty, Genevie can be found in her Canadian art sanctuary immersed in paints and canvas travelling to the reaches of her imagination to faraway places, creating her next masterpiece.
“Art is essential to my soul and spirit. It is a creative force that arises deep within and takes my breath away”.
My art is visual imagery and a narrative of a single moment in time, circumstance and place captured on canvas and defined only by my imagination and use of colour - bold, beautiful, dancing colour.I strive to take the viewer on on an artistic and visual journey be it to a place in nature,a celebration,a cultural and historical experience,a foreign country or a place in my imagination. Each work of art is designed to be beautiful, vibrant, meaningful and above all, joyful.
I discovered my art spirit as a teen. With real life callings and challenges, this spirit seemed dormant.Later in life,my unquenchable dream to put paint, ink and collage to paper and canvas was unleashed. I discovered the power of shape, line, light and shadow...and the undeniable magneticism of colour.I have not looked back since, discovering a fascinating world of joy, intrique and and a new way of seeing,of really looking at the world.
There are a few other moments in life that compare with the creative passion I feel when I paint. These times include the nurturance of healthy, loving relationships.Other times,it is the joy of nature, travel, beauty and the wonderful and positive mysteries of life.
All these elements in life shape who I am as an artist. They are the echoing counterpoints in my soul.Without a strong foundation of these elements, both real and imagined,my art would perhaps cease to exist. They are the catalysts that nurture my intrique with different cultures,my curiosity of exotic people and my love of unique places and environments. These joys are enhanced with a love of the arts, including music, dance and theatre.
