Mr. Delany recalls drawing at a very early age. In particular, he drew an image of Abe Lincoln on his Winky Dink screen at about age 5, perhaps 6. His mother was elated, he remembers.
As a high-school student, he studied in Princeton, New Jersey under Rex Gorleigh, learning to draw letterforms
Mr. Delany attended the Rhode Island School of Design, graduating with a BFA from the graphic design department with a minor in photography
He began his professional career launching new products for Johnson & Johnson, Dupont, Catelli Foods, and other industry-leading companies
For many years, he operated Delany Design Group, in Providence, Rhode Island, serving the needs of corporate marketing communications by providing design services for such companies as Data General, Fleet Bank, Knoll International and many others
In Boston, he managed creative departments for Scudder Stevens & Clark (financial), Arthur D. Little Global Consulting (think tank), and e-Dialog, a venture-capitalized high-tech email marketing company
Currently, he owns aaaForay, Inc., a 24/7 on-line design consultancy specializing in brand identity, web design, corporate marketing/sales communications, packaging, and related forms of electronic and print communications; see http://www.aaaforay.com
Examples of his work have been included in the National Monument at Ellis Island, the Smithsonian National Medical Archive, the Lee Iacocca Collection, the Reagan Collection, and the graphic design collection of the Museum of Modern Art, NYC
Paintings have been exhibited at the Donald Thomas Gallery, The David Charles Gallery, and the Providence Art Club (where his oil of a nude on masonite, 'My Stockbroker' was accorded 'Best of Show')
Mr. Delany's preferred mediums are oil and acrylic on canvas, wood, and masonite, also screen printing, offset lithography, typography and engraving.
