George I Perez - Fine Artist
Art is one of my passions. At the age of six, when my parents noticed that I was always drawing animals and cartoons on little pieces of paper, they gave me a box of colored pencils and a pad of drawing paper. I continued working with pencils and charcoal until Middle School, when my art teacher commended me for my fine detail work, and suggested that I try working with oils. I was a bit hesitant at first, but decided to give it a shot and asked mom if she would give me a small oil-painting set. Today I work in multiple media including oils, acrylics, watercolors, pen and ink, pastels, and once in a while, I still pick up my trusty old color pencils. I am really a self-taught artist, never going much past High School art classes, except for a commercial art course I took in College.
Every Summer, Bellingham holds the Chalk Art Festival. Participants are assigned a six by six foot section of sidewalk to create their work and the project must be completed within 3 hours. Twice I have participated in this contest and both times my work was featured on the front page of the Bellingham Herald. This is a cool competition; it was challenging and I enjoyed the whole thing very much--the chalk, the side walk, the sore knees--hee hee!
Cheers!
