My mother would tell me that I always had a propensity to travel, to wonder, and to explore. This tendency coupled with the fascination with my gift of artistic expression has led me to where I am now. But what started out as fascination has transformed into an ever growing passion for the need to express this gift. As a child, I was always the one who crayoned outside of the lines, always the one who painted the trees red and the sky yellow (much to the displeasure and discontentment of my art teachers throughout school). As a college bound high school student, I concentrated more on the traditional classes and suppressed the desire to seriously explore art, although there was a great art teacher that I had my junior year who inspired me to express myself through the use of pastels. Once I graduated from high school in Cleveland, Ohio I started my adventure with the US Navy. This adventure would not end until 24 years later, but would consist of getting a degree in Computer Science from Morehouse, traveling around the world, participating in a war, earning an MBA and getting to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Throughout this journey I managed to do a little art (but a lot of writing) along the way. However, when I retired a few years ago I was able to fully concentrate on honing the gift.
My mediums of choice are pastels and acrylic paint because of their bright and brilliant qualities. I love the vibrancy, blending, and the physical connection of using my fingers while using oil/chalk pastels. But I also began to enjoy the free movement of using a paintbrush/knife so I began to use acrylic paints a few years ago. I use these mediums to express my thoughts, ideas, and emotions. My travels have infused me with the bright, majestic colors of life and the world so I attempt to communicate this in most of my works.
I am now in the lovely island of Bali, Indonesia thus continuing my tendency to travel explore the world, and discover worlds within myself.
