I have been painting in oils for approximately ten years. My love of art has been lifelong and I have always admired the paintings of the Old Masters. It was quite fortunate that I was able to study for a while with an artist who'd been classically trained and passed along much information. Since the initial lessons, I have been working hard on my craft. Horses and still life are favorite subjects, and pretty much anything that catches my eye or gives me an idea gets painted! Horse and pet commissions also keep me busy and my paintings capture the character of an animal very well. Sometimes, the ideas come and are worked on for years before making it to canvas, other times it just 'happens'. A few years ago, I saw a great trompe l' oeil exhibit and was inspired to try my hand at it. I just love detail and this was right up my alley! Since then, a number of my trompe paintings have won awards and I am always thinking of new subject matter for this. I love how oil paints work and allow the artist to create illusion - that's what painting is, after all!
