I have been taking pictures since I was about 9 when I inherited my grandfathers camera. I pretty much stuck to film up until about 5 years ago. I resisted the digital movement as I thought myself to be a purist. I still shoot film occasionally, but digital photography has opened many new doors in terms of effects and capabilities. I started using HDR about 4 years ago, but I didn't like the surreal effects I was seeing and getting. I learned to use HDR for increasing dynamic range, but I mostly stay away from the stereotypical HDR imaging. I learned about the value of shooting RAW at a one hour lecture by digital photography guru Stephen Johnson. This has proved to be one of the most important pieces of information I have learned in the digital photography realm. I like to push the artistic envelope a bit utilizing topaz and ps, so I guess my purist philosophy has gone right out the window. Maine and the American Southwest are a few of my favorite locations to shoot.
