Gilbert is born in Germany in 1964. At the age of 14 he started photography as a hobby at his mums photoshop. He then worked mostly on black and white photography and mainly on landscapes and nightphotography. He did also work a bit in the studio. At 19 he started to work in a belgian schoolphotography compagny as assistant and a year later started at the army as photographer.
