Gladiola Sotomayor - Fine Artist
Gladiola Sotomayor was born on the island of Puerto Rico. Her passion for painting and drawing has been with her since she could hold a pencil in her hand. She would draw on her dolls. on the mail, on the walls, on her clothes, on herself.... you name it. This was not always seen as a good things so many times she had to hide her wall drawings behind furniture. Nontheless this did not discourage her from continuing her passion through her college years. She graduated with a Masters from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and has been awarded the National Board Certification for her excellence in teaching. The difficulty of raising a family while trying to create her art and teach at the same time have been many, but her love for art have withstood the test of time. She currently lives in an empty nest but feels that this stage of solitude could be an opportunity to regain the momentum she had lost through the child rearing years. Her current goal is to leave a legacy of art for her children and family. Her current stage of painting has been named as 'Contemporary Christian' since she has based many of her current works on Bible scriptures.
She has done numerous collectives and solo exhibitions in Chicago, Philadelphia, New Jersey, California, Florida, Puerto Rico. Her works are in private and public collections and has won awards along the way.
Since she is no longer teaching, the challenge that she must face now is to market her work through e-commerce and hopefully this will thrust her art career forward and lead to unleash the sleeping muse within her.
Enjoy the works, more are to be downloaded as they become in appropriate digital format. To view more of her works see her alternative web page http://gladiolasotomayor.com Again enjoy and feel free to comment. Gladiola
