Gregory Allen Page’s soulful paintings are an exuberant reflection of a person with a passion for life. His career path, uncommon for an artist, aid in the individualist nature of his style. A painter in his youth, Page studied anatomy and biology before going on to practice Reconstructive Surgery. Page has set aside his career in medicine to fully devote himself to painting, after an enlightening spell in Italy altered his perspective on the art of living. The rich brushwork and color found in his paintings meld well with his subject matter, focusing on spirituality, love, and beautiful life experiences. Correspondingly, Page’s works are raw and personal, with an expressive impasto application of paint. 'Oil painting is not photography,” Page states, “The soul of the painter is in the freedom of his hand and the brush.' Page lives and works in Chicago. Artist Statement
A painting is a communication, like a sentence or statement, about a subject. The painting’s elements can be complex or simple. In its simple form a painting can convey beauty. In a complex form, a painting can make a comment on popular culture or document something historically. Many of my paintings make bold comments or capture pop culture. This comes from my school of painting “Chicago Impressionism”. My school was formed by thousands of hours of direct study of the art at the Chicago Art Institute. A comprehensive analysis of the sketch books of Renoir, Seurat, Sargent, Monet. My school is the independent study of art itself--a study of the beauty of the Chicago Art Institute.
Gregory A. Page is a local Evanston artist who displays his work in galleries around the world: Maui, Chicago, Los Angeles, Scottsdale, and Como, Italy. He is known for his technical genius as well as the free hand he uses to express his independent spirit in making social comment.
His work has been described by critics as Van Gogh-esque, but with a pulse. A virtuoso of jewelry design as well as oils, his work is being recognized as the new genre 'Chicago Impressionism.' Imagine stumbling across a painter named Monet or Renoir or Sargent in 1890 and being able to buy one of these Impressionist works while they were still wet, before anyone recognized Impressionism as a new school of painting. In the shadow of great artists like da Vinci, Michelangelo and Rembrandt, Page studies the human form and the anatomy of the human body in great detail.

Capturing the contradiction of the material and the ethereal, Page combines social commentary with an artistic confession of spirituality. His female nudes hearken back to classical figures, while they are also portrayed with strikingly contemporary shades and coloring. Page says he's been inspired by Impressionism, but he has also inherited Egon Schiele's eye for the body and its contortions, coupled with a pop art social critique. He uses color with unconventional daring, and his subjects, whether friends, archetypes or movie stars, are recognizable to us, but they have also been transformed by this artist's vision of his own unique worlds.
