I work in IT by profession and I am a photographer by passion.
I was raised in northern New York State before joining the US Navy where I became drawn to the technical aspects of film photography. During my travels I learned composition techniques, developing, and printing from serious amateurs and professionals. I eventually became more interested in the artistic side of this hobby and continued to explore more creative aspects.
With a computer and software background, the advent of digital photography naturally gained my interest. Digital cameras have now replaced my old Nikon film cameras and Lightroom, Photoshop, Nik and DxO software have replaced the darkroom.
I shoot with a Nikon D300s, D7000, and an IR converted D80 equipped with Nikon 18-70mm, 18-200mm and 70-300mm VR zooms, Tamron 200-500mm zoom, Tamron 180mm macro, Nikon 50mm for portraits, and a Tokina 12-24mm wide angle. Almost everything is shot through a polarizer and/or neutral density filter. I also use a Singh-Ray vari-ND, and Hoya NDX16 and NDX400 filters for long exposures; and Singh-Ray I-Ray infrared and Cokin Soft Focus filters. Pods and heads are by Manfrotto and flash is a Nikon Speedlight SB600. Bags are Tamron Expedition 6X, and Domke F-1 and F-2. Waist level finder by Varavon.
My interests focus (no pun intended) on the out-of-doors beauty of our world, both natural and man-made. I hope you enjoy viewing my images as much as I have enjoyed capturing them.
I called Maine home for about 40 years during and after my Navy career. I've returned to my native New York and currently live in in the Buffalo area with my lovely wife and our two dogs.
