Harris Gulko’s work cuts across artistic barriers, displaying many themes: landscapes, seascapes, Israeli sites, cloud formations, abstracts, childhood games, and more. Born in Toronto in 1927, he moved to Montreal in 1963 and lived for many years in Jerusalem and currently lives in Winnipeg. He has been was asked to do fund raising work to benefit various charitable organizations. He says that painting has changed his life. Often, despite the plan he had when he has started a canvas, it seems the brush takes over, and has a will of its own. He often quotes the artist Gregg Kreutz who wrote: “I don’t have to think I am a great painter, but I need to seek a great painting. Any moment the canvas could come alive and become a beautiful picture “.
