Helena Tiainen

Welcome to my site. I am a painter who also draws. I work with acrylics, watercolor, mixed media, ink and pencil. I usually paint on stretched canvas and draw on paper. My subject matter ranges from figurative to abstract with strong emphasis on color, form and rhythm or flow. Some of my work is sculptural or 3-D painting.
I am into exploring oneness and allness and interconnectedness of all life. My art is multidimensional. It often combines that which is easily recognizable with the more mysterious, abstract and ethereal aspects of nature. Patterns and symbols play an important role in my work. Some of my art also has humorous aspects to it and I hope to create new possibility and offer empowerment to the viewers of my work.

I started my life in Helsinki, Finland and arrived in the United States in August 1979 to attend the San Francisco Art Institute. I hold a BFA major in painting and drawing and minor in printmaking from the SFAI and I presently live and work in Berkeley, California. I am self-employed and an active artist. I have participated in many group and solo exhibitions and my art is part of some fine collections within the US and Northern Europe.
