Born and educated in the U.S., Jackie considers her style of painting as an 'evolution' resulting from many courses and workshops given by various instructors. One of seven siblings (all skilled in the arts), painting, drawing, and music have never been choices, they were just part of everyday life. Along with this readily available family source of artistic information, the late Montreal watercolourist, Helmut Gerth, was a major contributor to Jackie's artistic 'adventure'.
With no formal art training, and several years of 'trial-and-error' oil painting, pastel attempts and not painting at all - and - having finally settled on the watercolour medium as her favorite form of expression, she has once again taken up the brushes and is now in full swing, gathering inspiration from her everyday surroundings. Living in rural settings for the past 20 years, and enjoying lakeside cottage life for many years has brought about an appreciation of nature and rustic settings.
Quite often, very early in the morning, Jackie can be found, camera in hand, traveling the back roads looking to capture a 'subject' with just the right light and shadow. She prefers to work from photographs.
With an obvious passion for wooden barns, Jackie's works reflect the passage of time, and, hopefully, inspire others to see the beauty of these rapidly disappearing rural structures.
