My name is Jacqui Douglas;
I live in the beautiful Sunshine Coast, Qld. Australia.
I have been painting & drawing most of my life and when I was a young girl
I knew that some how, my life would involve art. I have painted T-shirts for a Holiday Resort,
painted many Oil and Acrylic paintings over the years for Galleries and clients and
also made and painted tiles for a tile company. In 1997 I won the Local Artist
Award at the Maroochy Arts Festival, which was a great honor.
Mosaic and teaching Art have also been a large part of my Arts Practice over the last 20 or so years,
with Mosaic Commissions in N.Z., Japan, China and Australia. I think to date I have taught over 1000 people
the fun and obsession of Mosaics.
I love to draw in Pen & Ink and am inspired by nature and what is going on around me.
These drawings I call - Autorhythms.
I thought I made up this word up, not knowing that the phrase - Autorhythmic cells (pacemakers) refers to the cardiac muscle cells responsible for synchronizing the contractile cells to coordinate a Heart contraction!
In other words a Heartbeat = A vital force or driving impulse!
Itís amazing as my drawings are made in an automatic way (letting my mind wonder as I draw) they end up having their own rhythm. Autorhythm seemed an appropriate word, now I know this word is associated with the Heart it gives a deeper meaning to what my drawings are to me and I hope this also connects with the viewer.
Life can be full of wonderful synchronicities can't it?
